New York: Items: Is fashion modern? at Moma
The moment I arrived in New York, I hurried to go see this exhibition at Moma.
The exhibition explores the most impactful items, clothes or accessories, of the 20 and 21st century. Displaying 111 iconic Items that have shaped the century and still have impact today. Driven first and foremost by objects, not designers, the exhibition considers the many relationships between fashion and functionality, culture, aesthetics, politics, labor, identity, economy, and technology.
It's an interesting conversation and a good question to ask yourself. What do you think are the most impactful items and why? There were many items i hadn't thought of at the exhibition. It varies from Levis 501 to a Saari, the little black dress to a Champion's sweat shirt. It's fun to travel through the exhibition and think about the social and cultural impact these items have had.
Also what I got stuck in front of for an hour, was the map that displayed all the items and the reason for their impact. what was it that the item changed? The map is huge, filled with all this useful information on one big wall, so be ready to study the map carefully, it's worth it!
